Gumbo Flats Pumpkin Run

Saturday, October 30, 2004

After taking 3 consecutive days off I was back at it today with the Pumpkin Run out at Gumbo Flats. Weather was nice (67ish) but very breezy. This race has increased in popularity as evidenced by the fact that they ran out of shirts by the time that I arrived. Rosenthal offered to sell me his medium but I took a pass.

Started this 10k run fast and furious. We completed the first mile in about 8 minutes and pushed through the wind to the turnaround. Coming back was much nicer with the wind at our backs. Completed the race in 53:30.

I can honestly say that I pushed it a little too hard today. After being off for a few days I should have eased into things a little more, instead we charged out when the gun sounded. I payed for it later - very tight and feeling sore. Walked Sydney out at the farm later and could feel the pain.

We have a long way to go until next summer - need to pace myself accordingly.
