The Bolder Boulder

Monday, May 30, 2005

Out in Colorado for Memorial Day weekend - there is only one thing to do: THE BOLDER BOULDER 10K. Over 48,000 runners participated in this race. A great event that ends in Folsum Field where the Buffs play. This run is incredibly well organized - a must do if you are in Boulder, Colorado on Memorial Day. It is a top race.

51:14 - not too bad for a high altitude run!

Memphis In May

Sunday, May 22, 2005

The BOYS headed to Memphis for the Memphis In May Triathlon. This Olympic Distance Triathlon featured a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run. Good friends, a good race and good barbecue made this a weekend to remember.

My overall time for Memphis was 2:44:43. This was my 2nd International Distance Triathlon. I completed the Chicago Triathlon in 2:58:28 last year. Here is how my times in Memphis compared to Chicago:

Swim Time: 31:58 vs. 37:47
T1: 2:23 vs. 4:13 (I had a wetsuit on in Chi)
Bike: 1:13:42 (19.9 mph) vs. 1:23:50 (17.7 mph)
T2: 2:21 vs. 2:22
Run: 54:21 (8:46 avg) vs. 50:15 (8:06 avg.)

That's right - it's time for apparel baby!!! Look for t-shirts, sweatshirt, coffee mugs and mousepads. We might not be the 6:20 group but we have more fun!

Race For Sight

Sunday, May 01, 2005

It was off to the Race For Sight in Columbia, MO for the kickoff of the triathlon season. Chilly temps were once again prevelant for the 300 yard swim, 17.5 mile bike and 3.4 mile run. This is a short but tricky course. The swim is very short but very crowded. The bike is one of the hillier ones but the run is great - flat and partly on the Katy Trail.

The goal was to better last year's performance and as you can see from the results below, it was better from every aspect..

Swim: 5:39 vs. 6:14
T1: 1:47 vs. 2:45
Bike: 1:02:52 vs 1:06:41
T2: 1:09 vs. 1:28
Run: 27:08 (7:59 pace) vs. 28:35 (8:24 pace)
Overall: 1:38:33 vs. 1:45:46

I was pretty happy with my improvement until I saw Mr. Rosenthal's time of 1:34:19. To say that he shattered last year's time of 1:48:08 would be the understatement of the year. His new wheels helped him beat me on the bike by 2:45 and his run pace of 7:17 is truly inexplicable. We are going to start randomly drug testing him. I truly expect him to test positive for the same thing that Nina Kraft took.
