Chain Of Rocks Bridge Ride

Sunday, June 26, 2005

Today's brick workout finished off a key training week for me. We met at the Schnucks parking lot at 6am and headed down to the Chain Of Rocks Bridge. This was a flat ride (I didn't mind considering that I had 56 hilly miles on HWY T in St. Albans on Wednesday night) but was pretty good. I got a total of 51 miles in before transitioning into a 7 mile run up Skinker and into Forest Park. Temps were Hot, Hot, Hot. We started at 6am and finished at 1130am. Pretty good time management this weekend since I was able to get a 12 mile run in on Saturday before 8am. My confidence after this week is at an all time high. I don't know what my time will be in California but I know that I will get across that finish line. I truly feel that I am right on line with my training. A few more good weeks and I am there.

Rec Plex Triathlon

Sunday, June 19, 2005

I spent Father's Day morning out in St. Peters at the 2005 Rec Plex Triathlon. 500 Yard Swim - 20 Mile Bike - 4.7 Mile Run
This was my third year participating in this race. My main goal was to use this race as solid training for Vineman. Most importantly, to get a 5 mile run in after a good hard bike. My other goal of trying to beat my times from the previous two years was blown up immediately when I dropped my chain 3 times at the start of the bike.

Here is how I finished compared to last year:

TOTAL TIME = 2:03:36 vs. 2:01:51
Swim Time = 10:53 vs 13:42
Bike Time = 1:13:01 vs. 1:08:11 (this is where I got killed - I biked hard once I got my chain on)
Run Time = 39:42 (8:16 avg) vs. 39:58 (8:37 avg)

While my time was not great, my fitness level was far superior then in past years. I came across the finish feeling good.

START SPREADING THE NEWS - WE'RE IN!!!

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

After being summarily rejected from the lottery system last year, we fared much better this time around. Tommy, Mike, Beth & I all made it through the lottery for the 2005 NEW YORK CITY MARATHON! That's right, we will be joining in the 36th running of the world's most celebrated road race, the New York City Marathon. More than 85,000 people registered for this race - don't ask me how we made it in - we just did! Let the long runs begin.

Innsbrook Training Day

Saturday, June 11, 2005

We packed up the Jeep and headed out to Tom Irwin's house at Innsbrook for a morning workout. The main goal was to get a mile swim in a lake using a wetuit. Tom, Bob, Lynn, Beth & I hit the water for a great swim. We jumped on the bike for about 17 miles and then ran a few hills before heading back to St. Louis. What a great morning!

It is only natural that Lynn would try to get my pants off me - after all, she is a chick.
