Cross Training In Colorado

Monday, December 26, 2005

My triathlon training has moved to Base Camp I (Breckenridge, Colorado) for Christmas week. It is worth noting that out of all of the triathlon training books that I have read, not a single one mentions downhill skiing in their training regiments. Oh well, you have to enjoy life a little bit during the "off season." There will be plenty of time for Masters Swimming when I get home.

"I Won't Lie To You Boys, I Was Terrified"

It was SINK OR SWIM TIME for me. Jumping into the Ladue High School pool for a masters swim session was a lesson in overcoming one of my greatest fears. Prior to this class, I equated swimming for 90 minutes in a masters swim to getting a colonoscopy. However, I am convinced that masters swimming is the key to improving the first leg of the triathlon. Knowing that sometimes you HAVE TO FACE THE VADAR, I jumped into my very first masters swim class with TPR, Pep and Julie. I won't lie to you boys, I was terrified. However, I actually had an absolute blast. I made this out to be far worse than it was. Don't get me wrong, the workout was very tough but much more enjoyable than swimming lap after lap by yourself. Now, if I can only get Julie Pepper to wear a bikini then we are in business!

Memphis In May

I am now officially signed up for the Memphis In May Triathlon on May 21, 2006. This race is an absolute blast. I am expecting a HUGE contingent to make the trek from St. Louis to Elvis Land for this Olympic Distance Tri. Great BBQ, a trip to Graceland and a Triathlon - what better way to spend a weekend???

Taking A 26.2 Mile Bite Out Of The Big Apple

Sunday, December 11, 2005

"It's not the first 26 miles that get you - it's the last .2"

Having the Chicago Marathon firmly under our race belts, the crew from STL descended upon New York City for the 35th Annual New York Marathon. What could be more perfect than a 26.2 mile jaunt that takes you through all five burroughs and ends in Central Park? It was a great weekend filled with sun, fun and of course, a long, long RUN. When it was all said and done, I got in at 4:02:25 with a pace of 9:15. Not too bad considering that this was a tough, crowded course. It has taken a while, but you can finally click here to check out all of the PHOTOS from our group's weekend in NYC!!!
