It's Frickin' Cold
Saturday, February 18, 2006

Now this is what I call a fun day. A 12 mile run in -10 degree temps followed by a birthday celebration dinner at Sidney Street Cafe. It just doesn't get much better than this. I will say this though, it was frickin' cold out there this morning. This was not a morning for the warm blooded. Congrats to TPR, Pep, Vic, Rebecca, Tom & Nancy for braving the chilly temps. It took 45 minutes in the shower for my core body temperature to return to its normal state.
Sub 17
Friday, February 17, 2006

There comes a time in every athlete's life where being first or last doesn't really matter. What matters is the adventure. When you set aside the age group records, the prize money, and for the lucky few, the sponsorships you are left with a very simple number -17.
17 hours to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles. The funny thing is thats just a small part of what you go through. It is a day filled with dreams, challenges and the occasional trip into the bushes. Everyone has their own reason for going the distance. Sub 17 helps celebrate and remember those reasons. (Check out there site - some pretty cool t-shirts).
JCCA Indoor Triathlon
Sunday, February 12, 2006
Mark Gellman Productions once again put on a fabulous event out at the JCCA West. Their second annual Indoor Triathlon featured a 400 yard swim, an 8 mile bike on the trainer and a 2.5 mile stroll on the treadmill. Paul Galant and Bernice Irwin braved the climate controlled conditions and posted some fantastic times. CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL OF THE PHOTOS FROM THEIR BIG RACE DAY.
USAT Rankings
Thursday, February 09, 2006
The USAT has released their final 2005 national rankings. I attempted to understand how these ratings were derived and failed miserably. It is just important to understand that these rankings are an important gauge in monitoring each athlete's performance against the nation's best. They are also helpful in comparing an athlete's personal performances from one year to the next. But, most importantly I HAVE A BETTER RANKING THAN TOM ROSENTHAL. After that, nothing else matters. Here is how our group stacked up in their respective age divisions...ATHLETE / RANK / POINTS
Nancy Lieberman 98 out of 162 (60.5 percentile) 57.9858 points
Carol Wright 140 out of 661 (21.2 percentile) 70.9180 points
Jim Wright 147 out of 296 (49.7 percentile) 65.7570 points
Tom Irwin 553 out of 675 (81.9 percentile) 59.8547 points
Mike Pepper 1182 out of 1767 (66.9 percentile) 67.5662 points
John Strassner 1919 out of 2334 (82.2 percentile) 65.3979 points
Tom Rosenthal 2401 out of 2912 (82.5 percentile) 64.6182 points
