Doing The Diaper Dash For Dollars -
GO WHITNEY!!!
Thursday, March 15, 2007
My 19 month old nephew, Whitney, is flying into STL and will participate in the DIAPER DASH that is part of the St. Louis Marathon and Family Fitness Weekend April 14th. He will be dashing across the carpet to raise funds for Zachary Solomon.
I know that I forwarded the email below to many of you but thought that it was so cool that Blair's little guy would be doing this to help out. As many of you know, Whitney was born prematurely but is doing great. As you can read below, Zachary needs a little extra help and this is a great way to give it to him.
You can raise funds for Zachary by sponsoring Whitney in the diaper dash. Make checks payable to COTA and in the memo put Zachary S. You will receive a letter for tax purposes. Send the checks to my attention and I will forward...

It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you today. My nephew, Zachary, was born prematurely weighing in at 2 lbs 5.5 oz. back in August, '06. At 5 weeks of age he developed a disease called Necrotizing Entercolitis which causes the small bowel to die. On September 11th and September 12th he was rushed into emergency surgery where the surgeons removed all but 6 cm of his small bowel. (A term infant has about 150 cm of small bowel) With only 6 cm left, Zachary's only chance for long-term survival is a small bowel transplant. Last night, I attended a strategy meeting to kick off a "For the Love for Zachary" fund raising campaign, in association with the Children's Organ Transplant Association, to offset the costs associated with the transplant. I have attached a document that gives a bit more background on Zachary's situation. I encourage you to watch Fox 2 news this evening at 5 pm and/or 6 pm to see their story. There is a chance it might be on againat 9 pm but we are not sure.
All I ask is for everyone to tell as many folks as you can about Zachary and his situation.
You may go to http://www.cotaforzacharys.com to find out how you may help and that includes many ways beyond a monetary donation. Please look under the "volunteer" page to see how you can help with a simple click of your mouse. Zachary is a fighter and his smile gives my brother and sister-in-law and the rest of our family the strength to fight along side him everyday! And it is with the help of family, friends, co-workers and even folks we have never met, that is going to give Zachary the best opportunity to live a long and happy life.
Thank you!
Danny Solomon
