Rock N Roll Fraser

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Team Fraser is in San Diego today getting ready for Jason's first marathon tomorrow. The Rock 'n' Roll marathon was voted Best Race and Best Post-Race Party by Competitor Magazine. The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego is a unique event that combines running with entertainment. Twenty-six stages host live music along the course while 2,000 cheerleaders encourage runners to the finish line, and this year, the Running Elvis contingency is going for the world record-which means more racecourse excitement for everyone! In addition, the event features a post race concert highlighting a major headliner act. Past performers include Seal, Ozomatli, Pinback, Live, Chris Isaak, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Hootie & the Blowfish, Chicago, Pat Benatar, and Huey Lewis and the News. Early prognosticators have Jason finishing in 3:47:00. Let's see how close we get to his actual time. Go get em' JF!!!

The Bulls Were Loose In Memphis

Thursday, May 22, 2008

It was the running of the bulls - not in Spain but in MEMPHIS. Despite my noticeable absence, the boys from TEAM STL sported the appropriate garb down in Memphis this past weekend. One can only wonder what Nancy and Tom were possibly thinking when they decided NOT to wear the team uniform. Even my favorite, Amy Ohlau, thought that the crew looked marvelous and was overheard asking how she might get her hands on a jersey for her next race. If I don't get back in shape she can have mine!!! Results below...

Tommy 2:26:25
Stern 2:27:11
Pepper 2:32:09
Francisco 2:41:59
Noda 2:44:46
Jim Wright 2:44:57
Carol Wright 2:48:00
Amy Ohlau 2:52:41
Irwin 3:00:27

Aspen Golden Leaf Half Marathon

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

We have to do this one!!! CLICK HERE to see what I am talking about and shoot me an email if you want to come out to Colorado to do this race with me - it is AWESOME. Selected by Trail Runner Magazine as one of "America's 14 most scenic races", the Golden Leaf Half Marathon traverses from Snowmass Village to the heart of Aspen on mountain trails and roads, at the height of Colorado's breathtaking Fall colors. Nearly 600 runners take off up the ski slopes of Snowmass Mountain and run up and over the mountain to Aspen, this trail half marathon is named in honor of the changing aspen tress along the course. Climbing 1,000 feet in the first mile and a half, we will battle high altitude, single track trails and rolling hills. Come on out this September to do this one with me!!!

Blair's Big Race

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

For me it was Wisconsin, for my sister Blair it is the BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON this July. She is in serious training for the second leg of the 5430 Sports Triathlon. She will have some serious competition including last year's champion, Joanna Zeiger. Inside Triathlon rated the Boulder Peak as the 4th Best Triathlon in the U.S. behind only Escape from Alcatraz, Hawaii Ironman, and Wildflower - great company! This has got to make the 2009 list of events for the boys from TEAM STL.

MIM Salute

The Good Stuff

Delicious!!!

As a salute to all of our friends that are in Memphis this weekend for the big Memphis In May Triathlon, Suzy and I barbecued a few racks of ribs this evening. If we can't physically be there we will be there in spirit. While my BBQ rib recipe is spectacular I will tell you that it just not quite the same as the ribs from Rendezvous which are probably a tad better. You have to love a race that does not give medals but instead gives a phenomenal BBQ lunch afterwards. Good luck to all the racers tomorrow - I know you guys will do great and please bring back the leftovers from Corky's.

Good Luck In Memphis

Friday, May 16, 2008

Good Luck to all of my friends and teammates who are traveling to Memphis this weekend for the Memphis In May Triathlon. This is an awesome event due in large part to the BBQ lunch that is served after the Olympic Distance Triathlon. I can honestly say that I will miss being there with all of you. Good luck and go get em guys!!!

Start Spreading The News

Thursday, May 15, 2008

For my one workout of the week (what a difference a year makes!!) I decided to get up and run in Central Park. I left my hotel in Time Square and headed up 8th avenue toward the park. I ran up to the Reservoir, went part way around and then headed back. This is one of the best run venues in the country - there is just something very special about running in New York. It is always amazing to see the variety of people and activities going on (a little different than Forest Park). This was a great morning to run. Overcast skies and temps in the 50s. Now, if I can only add a few more workouts during the week then life will be GOOD!

Nashan's Results

Another great event for our friend, Kevin Nashan. He finished 85th overall in a time of 4:53:48. Tom Rosenthal provided the breakdown of Kevin's stellar performance...

Kevin Nashan 36:58 2:25:18 (23.1) 1:46:48 (8:10) 4:53:48 20/169 85/1312

TEAM STL's Next Race

Thursday, May 08, 2008

Well, it didn't take long to find the next challenge for members of TEAM STL - the TransRockies Run A New Epic in the Rockies

This year from August 25-30, up to 150 teams of two will take on the Colorado Rockies for a running experience like no other. During the six days of the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run, runners from all over the world will run, eat and live together as they cover 125 miles of spectacular scenery, fully supported by a dedicated and professional Event Team who will look after all aspects of their food, accommodations and on-course support.

Here is what it looks like... click PLAY BUTTON

Based upon the wildly successful GORE-TEX™ TransAlpine-Run in Europe and the TransRockies mountain bike race, the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run is run on a multi-day point-to-point format which allows athletes to access and traverse wild and fantastic scenery, while building camaraderie, overcoming adversity and sharing a singular adventure.

The GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run course runs from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek, through the heart of the White River and San Isabel National Forests. The course includes a mix of singletrack and forest road with nearly 25,000 feet of elevation gain, reaching altitudes of over 12,500 ft.

Racers are fed and housed in a tent city, and treated to hot showers and other amenities every night, and are supported throughout each stage with feed and aid stations along with a fully-equipped and mobile medical team. Each day’s run is filmed by a professional TV crew who produce footage which is shown during the daily awards ceremony recognizing the stage and overall leaders.

Each morning, the racers will leave the race village en masse and tackle the day’s course before arriving at the finish where the Event Team has moved in and rebuilt the village from the night before. With gear bags, tents, showers and food waiting, the racers can spend the rest of the afternoon and evening trading stories, healing wounds and recovering in preparation for the next day’s run.

While many participants come to endurance stage events with the simple goal of getting to the finish line, there will be fierce competition at the front of the pack for the $20,000 in prize money up for grabs in five different team categories: Open Men, Open Women, Open Mixed, Men 80+ and Women 80+. The 80+ categories consist of teams whose participants' ages combine to 80 years or more.

Regardless of category or experience, participants of the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run will cross the line with a deep sense of accomplishment, a lifetime’s worth of stories and memories, and a group of new friends in adventure. Register today!

Back In The Spinning Saddle

Wednesday, May 07, 2008

The long road back to peak condition began yesterday. That's right - I am back in the game!!! I went to a spinning class at the Colorado Athletic Club with is located just 2 miles away from my office. This is the reciprical club to Wellbridge in St. Louis. It is a very nice, upscale club but the membership just doesn't compare to the likes of Vic Richey and company. I will say this though, while I do miss Vic, he has been replaced by a large, flat screen TV in the locker room which is pretty awesome. I fully expect Kenny Rosenthal to lobby the good folks at Wellbridge STL to put one of these in there!

Race For Sight

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

In the ultimate display of complete TEAM FRACTURE, Tommy Rosenthal got up at 330am and traveled BY HIMSELF down to Columbia, MO for Race For Sight. Sporting the new TRI BULL racing uniform, TPR had a heck of a race as he finished the sprint in 1:15:37. He beat other notables including Paul Schon (1:16:17), Sean O'Neal (1:19:00), Francisco (1:23:43) and my all-time favorite, Amy Ohlau (1:29:24). Tommy proved that all you have to do is stop working in order to spend more time training and you TOO can improve your triathlon performance by a couple of minutes. Just kidding. He does still work one day per week!! The only disappointment came from Julie Pepper and had nothing to do with her swim performance - it came from the fact that she did not like Tommy's bike jersey and pants combination. This could lead to some serious marital discord down the road when Pep dons the team uniform!!! Stay tuned...

17 things that triathlon has taught me about life

17 things that triathlon has taught me about life
By IronmanLife.blogspot.com

1. There are good days and there are bad days and sometimes you can't tell the difference until you start.
2. Contrary to popular belief, sleep is not overrated. Not in the slightest.
3. Don't forget to breathe.
4. Just because it's raining doesn't mean you should cry.
5. Nobody ever said it was easy.
6. Pain is temporary. Pride lasts a lifetime. Sometimes even two.
7. Create a plan and stick to it. It may not always work, but if you stay focused and relaxed, it'll all end up just fine.
8. You've got to try. No matter what happens, in the end you'll have bigger regrets from not ever trying.
9. Strength and courage blossom from the sands of adversity.
10. Sometimes it's the little things that make the big differences.
11. Getting to the starting line is usually a lot harder than getting to the finish.
12. Listen to your body and listen to your mind. And make sure you know when they're lying to you.
13. You can't change the past and you won't alter the future. Enjoy right now, right now.
14. Smile. It does a body good.
15. Be supportive of others. We're all in this together.
16. It's OK to cry.
17. Don't forget to eat. Especially breakfast -- that's a really important one.
