Soon To Be A Best Selling Book:

New Jersey

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Amid a firestorm of controversy, Tommy Rosenthal unveiled his design for the 2009 Team STL jersey (see above). The design was immediately panned by all critics for its failure to incorporate the TRI BULL that was developed in 2008. Tommy's creation was a throw back to the very popular 2007 design and was well received by Mike Pepper who was thrilled that someone else picked up the ball and created the jersey so that he did not have to. Teammates were amazed that Tommy had time to accomplish this major feat considering his unbelievably busy work and training schedule that is heavy on training. Make sure that you contact young Rosenthal to place your jersey order immediately because with such a hot design these jerseys will not be on the shelf long.

The Basement

Sunday, January 25, 2009

It's not quite the same as training in Pepper's basement (I actually really miss those days) but I do have my Lucero hooked up to the trainer and am ready to rock and roll. I went back and looked at my base training program that Coach Luc set up for in 2007 and was cracking up as I sat and calculated how long it would take to get through tomorrow's workout. It is still way to early to proclaim that "I am back" but I am looking forward to a 10 minute warm up followed by 4X w/5R 8 min 70-75% @ 80-90 rpms. For the record, the TV/DVD/VCR combination actually works in my basement unlike the previous basement where I use to spin!!! Unfortunatley I don't have Seiichi stocking my refrigerator with Gatorade. By the way there is A TON TO DO OUT IN COLORADO. Click here to see another fun activity.

Cross Training

Saturday, January 24, 2009

While my triathlon training has not been great thus far, I am doing a bunch of cross training such as playing ice hockey with Jack. Just trying to keep up on the ice with all of these 4-6 year olds has to pay divideds down the road. Hockey is huge out here and Jack is having a blast playing every Sunday. He is doing great but I still think he has a better shot at being the next Bob Costas as oppose to the next Joe Sakic.

A Journey to the Top and Perhaps Back

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Rebecca Brown found the perfect Ironman Arizona training race for TEAM STL. It's the Pikes Peak Marathon which will redefine what you call running. Sure, the marathon starts out like a lot of races on Any Street, USA. But the first left turn will have you turning in the direction of up! During the next 10 miles, as you gain almost 6,000 vertical feet, your legs, lungs, heart and mind will be worn to a ragged nothingness. But it won’t be until your last three miles, with still over 2,000' of vertical to go, that you will realize where the Marathon got its moniker—America’s Ultimate Challenge.

There’s a reason trees don’t bother growing above 12,000' on Pikes Peak. They can’t!

Makes one wonder if trees are smarter than runners. Above treeline most runners take 30 minutes or more, some much more, just to cover a mile. What little air remains can’t satisfy the endless stream of zombies hoping only to survive their next step—a death march right out of a scene from Dawn of the Dead. Adding insult to injury, it might start to snow!

Then, if you are on the deluxe tour, you run back down for the second half of the Marathon. Along the way protruding rocks are waiting to send you crashing to the ground mangling flesh and only temporarily masking the pain of blood filled blisters. Meanwhile, the temperature has often risen by more than 30 degrees since the race start but that will be good preparation for Ironman Arizona.

This Is What I Have Been Up To

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Training and website updates (along with team jersey development) have all been put on hold for a little bit due to a chaotic work schedule. Just in case you questioned whether or not I was really working, here is video proof but make sure that you keep watching for the good looking guy at the end...

Rosenthal's Race Schedule

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

A quick analysis of Rosenthal's race schedule for 2009 shows one major deficiency...

Go STL 1/2 Marathon 4-19-09
Race For Sight 5-3-09
Memphis In May 5-17-09
Eagleman 70.3 6-14-09
Steelhead 70.3 8-1-09
Chicago 8-30-09
IM Arizona 11-22-09

Can you guess what he is missing??? That's right!!! He does not have a training week in Colorado scheduled yet. Need to slot in the BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON on July 12th followed by a week of high altitude training in Breckenridge. Click here for the link.
