It is official! My Ironman I.D. # is 96228. I don't know exactly what this means other than I now have a ton of swimming, biking and running that I need to do in order to make sure that I don't end up at the bottom of Lake Monona.
I have always said that the road to the Ironman officially began for me three years ago when I did my first triathlon. I started out doing a bunch of local sprint triathlons (St. Peters Rec Plex, Ballwin, Wood River, The Babler Beast and Lake St. Louis). I graduated to Olympic Distance events with Quartermax and The Chicago Triathlon before attempting the 1/2 Ironman Distance (Vineman, KC Half Championships, Racine & Timberman). I threw in the Chicago and New York Marathons for good measure and now find myself at the begining to the final leg of my triathlon journey. The ironman is not something that you can just jump into - it requires a tremendous amount of training. More importantly, it requires the support of family and friends. I start down this road with the hope that I will be able to summon everything that it will take to complete this journey. I am not alone. I have a great training team and a phenomenal family. I will need everything and everyone if I am to cross the line in front of the Madison Capital before midnight next September. The journey is underway...Stay tuned!
